Oct. 2, 2016 Aggie Invitational Results
DAVIS, Calif.--Two Zags wrapped up the Aggie Invitational with consolation bracket victories Sunday as Vincent Rettke won the A Singles and Sam Feit took the B Singles drop-down flights at Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis.
Rettke won the final in yet another three-setter, his fourth of the weekend. Opponent Bryce McKelvie won the first set 4-6, but Rettke countered with a 6-3 tally in the second set to force a third set super tiebreak. The Bulldog claimed that extra frame by four points for the consolation title.
Feit, a freshman like Rettke, also won his match in a third set super tiebreak. He took the first set in a tiebreak at 7-6, but opponent Kostya Nesterenko of Nevada countered with a 4-6 win in the second frame. Feit bounced back to win the super tiebreak 10-6, capping off his weekend with a victory.
Also competing in a consolation final, Emilio Moreno and Ruadhan O'Sullivan reached the B Doubles Consolation championship match, turning aside Nevada's Peter O'Donovan and Alex Turc 8-3 in the semis. In the final, they ran into another West Coast Conference pair in Portland's Goutham Sundaram and Jared Madison. The Pilots won the match 8-6.
The Zags will return to northern California in two weeks for the ITA Northwest Regionals, hosted this year by Cal in Berkeley, California. That tournament will run from Oct. 13-17 at Hellman Tennis Complex.
