Duck Invitational Day 2 Results
EUGENE, Ore.-The Gonzaga men's tennis team shifted into consolation play during day two of the Duck Invitational Saturday as two individuals and two pairs advanced in their consolation flights.
Before consolation play began, one Bulldog individual and one pair entered the day still active in their main brackets, but both were eliminated. In the Yellow Singles bracket, Simon Homedes Dualde squared off against Sandro Lena of Nevada in the flight's semifinal. The freshman Zag claimed the first set by a break at 4-6, but Lena won the second by the same scoreline. Lena then took the third 6-3, ending Homedes Dualde's run in the main bracket.
Freshmen Vincent Rettke and Kyle Everly, meanwhile, were eliminated from the doubles bracket, falling to Goutham Sundaram and Jamie Fisher of Portland. That was the Gonzaga pair's first contest of the weekend after receiving a bye directly into the second round.
In consolation play, Sam Feit reached the semifinal of the Green Singles backdraw with a two-set victory. He breezed past Tommy Edwards of Portland State by a 6-2, 6-0 tally and will face Kostya Nesterenko of Nevada in the semis. Everly also reached the semifinals, although in the Yellow Singles consolation. He breezed by the Vikings' Sam Larson 6-1, 6-0 and will face West Coast Conference foe Ethan Ogard next.
Both Gonzaga duos also advanced in the doubles backdraw. The freshman team of Feit and Homedes Dualde topped PSU's Ethan Lopez and Russell Risenhoover 8-4, while sophomores Emilio Moreno and Ruadhan O'Sullivan downed Nevada's Lena and Mile Cilic 8-6. Both Bulldog pairs are in separate sides of the draw, meaning they won't play one another unless they both reach the consolation final.
The Zags will wrap up both the Duck Invitational and the fall tournament slate on Sunday, Nov. 13, again on the Student Tennis Courts on the University of Oregon campus. Doubles play will begin at 9:00 a.m.
