Feb. 11, 2016 SPOKANE, Wash. â€" Sophomore Domantas Sabonis was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances both athletically and in the classroom. First team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot where First, Second and Third-team All-America honors will be selected later this month.
In the class room, Sabonis has posted a 3.46 grade-point average while majoring in sport management. He has helped guide the Zags to a 19-5 record, including an 11-2 mark to put GU on top of the West Coast Conference.
Sabonis, also a watch-lister on the Naismith, Wooden, Jabbar and Oscar Robertson lists this season, has put together a dominating year in the post for Gonzaga. He's averaging 17.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, while shooting .616 from the field. He's leading the WCC and ranked No. 8 in the nation in rebounding.
Sabonis has posted a league-leading 14 double-doubles this season, including 12 games with at least 12 rebounds. He had a career-high 20 rebounds at Pacific and has had more than 15 rebounds in six games.
Gonzaga faces Portland on the road at 8 p.m. on Thursday. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
