WROW Opens 2016 with Scrimmage vs. Portland

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga women's rowing team kicks off its spring season with a scrimmage against the University of Portland at Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Wash., on Friday and Saturday.

The teams will compete at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday across five crews. Directions to the boathouse can be found here.

Head coach Glenn Putyrae's squad comes into the 2016 season as the reigning West Coast Conference champions and a program-best No. 17 ranking to end the 2015 campaign. The squad returns WCC Rower of the Year Kara Soucek, WCC Coxswain of the Year Karly Dougherty, WCC Newcomer of the Year Isabelle Belzil and All-WCC selections Brooklyn Beeler, Maddie Turbes and Devyn Bell.

Last season, the squad placed 17th at the NCAA Championships and are looking earn their third bid in the last four years to nationals.
