March 21, 2016 SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Gonzaga men's golfer Sean Walsh was selected as the West Coast Conference Golfer of the Month for the month of February.
On Feb. 21, Walsh won the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif. He was seven-under-par in the 116-golfer field. It was his second medalist honor this season after taking the Saint Mary's Invitational title in the fall.
Walsh opened the spring schedule with another top-20 finish. The lone senior on the GU men's team tied for 17th at the Prestige at PGA West to open the spring schedule. He shot even-par at the prestigious event in La Quinta, Calif.
Walsh is currently ranked 58th in the country in the Golfstat Head-to-Head Player Standings. He is rated 70th on the Golfweek/Sagarin national rankings. The Keller, Texas native appeared in the first Spring Arnold Palmer rankings at No. 22. The top six golfers from the final ranking on April 15 from both the United States and Europe shall be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup, in Formby, England, June 24-26.
Walsh has finished in the top-10 in four of the seven events he has played in this season. He has placed in the top-five three times.
For the month, Walsh posted a stroke average of 70.33, which included five of six rounds at par or better, including two rounds in 60s.
