ABOUT THE BAY AREA INTERCOLLEGIATE:
- Gonzaga returns to the Bay Area Intercollegiate after finishing seventh at the event last season. They climbed two spots during the tournament's final day, beating fellow WCC schools San Francisco and BYU. GU's 36-hole score of 590 (+22) tied for the team's third-lowest in program history and the final round total of 883 (+31) was tied for the fourth-lowest three-round tally at the time (it's since been moved to fifth). Meanwhile, then-senior Alice Kim took 10th with a three-round total of 214 (+1), the fifth-lowest tournament score in GU history.
- The Bulldogs will face plenty of talented teams in Fairfax as both Washington (11) and California (14) are in GolfStat's top 15 and three more are in the top 50. All 13 teams are in the top 76 squads in the nation. Individually, 10 of GolfWeek's top 100 players, including freshman Bianca Pagdanganan (63), and 19 of the top 200 will play at the Bay Area Intercollegiate.
LAST TIME OUT:
- Two rounds under par vaulted the Zags up for spots to sixth at the end of The Gold Rush Feb. 22-23. Pagdanganan shot 2-under 70 while senior Raychelle Santos carded a 71 (-1), matching her best round of the year to spur on the GU charge. As a team, Gonzaga counted 295 strokes (+7) during the third round and 905 (+41) on the tournament.
- Pagdanganan saw her second Top-Five finish of the season, taking fourth at even-par 216. Santos' low third round, meanwhile, carried her up to a tie for 26th, her second-highest finish of the year. Ciera Min and Jena Gao, meanwhile, tied at 47th while Dania Uy moved into a tie for 60th.
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST:
- The Bulldogs have ended tournaments well this season, having their lowest round come on the final day of three tournaments this year. At The Gold Rush, GU cut six strokes off their previous low during the third round, and they trimmed nine strokes at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational and 12 at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational. The only tournament where the Zags saw their worst round of the tournament in the third round was the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational, which saw much wetter weather for the final round than the first two.
- At The Gold Rush, three Zags - Pagdanganan, Santos, and Uy - ended with their best rounds of the tournament. At the PLH, four of Gonzaga's five players at tied or improved on their tourney bests on the final day. At least one GU player improved during final rounds at the Dick McGuire Invite and the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown as well.
CHECK THE HISTORY BOOKS:
- In Southern California, Pagdanganan turned in yet another tournament at or under par, the third of her career and 14th in GU history. Her 216 (E) is tied for the 11th-lowest tournament score.
- The freshman is on pace to shatter the school record for season stroke average, taking 72.17 strokes every round, and the current record is 73.89, set by Min last year. As a team, the Bulldogs are also on track to break the stroke average record as they've tallied 298.67 strokes a round. The current record is last year's 299.43.
