Redshirt senior guard Eric McClellan was chosen by the league coaches as the WCC Defensive Player of the Year, while Domantas Sabonis and Kyle Wiltjer were named to the All-WCC First Team and Josh Perkins was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team. McClellan becomes the sixth Zag to take home the DPOY honors and second in a row after Gary Bell won the award last season. He notched 26 steals this season and chipped in with seven blocks from his guard position. He also added 9.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Zags.

SABONIS NAMED COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL AMERICAN
Sophomore forward Domantas Sabonis brought home one of the nation's highest honors when he was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American on Thursday, College Sports Information Directors of America officials announced. Sabonis, who carries a 3.46 grade-point average as a Sport Management major, was named to the Second Team and becomes the eighth Gonzaga men's basketball player overall to earn the award and 14th honoree overall. He's just the third sophomore in program history to be recognized at the Academic All-America level and one of just four sophomores nationwide this season that earned the distinction on the list comprised of three five-player teams.

WILTJER, SABONIS MOVING UP RECORD BOOKS
In just two seasons, Kyle Wiltjer has put himself among the top Zags when it comes to scoring. His total of 638 points last season currently ranks as the seventh-best single-season total in program history, but his current total of 624 points this season has a chance to surpass it. His total of 1,262 points as a Zag also ranks 25th all-time at GU. For Sabonis, his rebounding numbers has been the most impressive, currently ranking as the sixth-best single-season total with 357 rebounds this season, just 10 boards out of the top five. His career-total of 625 rebounds, is just 17 boards out of the top 10 all-time at GU.

IRONMAN: WILTJER MINUTES
Kyle Wiltjer has steadily grow his playing time, going from 11.6 to 23.8 minutes per game in his two seasons at Kentucky, but he's taken on an even bigger role at Gonzaga. Last season, he averaged 27.6 minutes per game and was the team's leading scorer, but coupled with the injury to Przemek Karnowski, Wiltjer not only leads the team in scoring but also in minutes played at 33.4 per game.

PERKINS LEADING AT THE POINT
Redshirt freshman Josh Perkins has shown his growth over the last month. In the last nine games, he's had at least five assists on seven occasions, and over the last five games, he's had a 2.86 assist-to-turnover ratio. He's had at least eight points in six straight games, including a 21-point outburst against Saint Mary's at home. In 18 conference games, Perkins is second in the league three-point shooting at .463 (25-for-54) and is fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.7.

MELSON FINDING HIS ROLE
Sophomore guard Silas Melson has been a force on both ends of the floor for Gonzaga, especially in the last nine games, where's he's knocked down 33-for-64 (.516) from the floor, 16-of-34 (.471) from behind the three-point line and 20-of-25 (.800) from the free throw line. Melson is coming off a career-high 18 points in Thursday's win over San Diego and 13 more points in Saturday's win at BYU.

ACADEMICS, TOO
Gonzaga was the only team in the league with three players named to the WCC All-Academic First Team announced by conference officials on Friday. Kyle Wiltjer (3.76, MBA), Kyle Dranginis (3.88, Masters in Organizational Leadership) and Domantas Sabonis (3.46, Sport Management) each earned their first league academic honor. It also marks the first time GU has had three on the first team in a season since the 1999-00 squad had four with Mike Nilson, Ryan Floyd, Matt Santangelo and Jimmy Tricco earn the award.

DEFENSE CARRYING THE LOAD
Since giving up 94 points in an overtime win at San Francisco-- the first 90-plus-point opponent for Gonzaga since a 96-91 OT loss at USF in 2011 -- GU opponents have averaged just 64.3 points per game over the last 15 games. That includes just two opponents reaching the 70 mark, while two other opponents were held to 48 (USF at home) and 52 (San Diego at home). Over the 15-game span, Gonzaga has held opponents to just .397 percent shooting overall and just 26.7 percent from behind the arc.
