GONZAGA BULLDOGS AT THE MT. SAC AND OREGON RELAYS

FIRST GU RACES: Thursday: Men- 6:22 p.m. (Steeplechase) | Saturday: Women- 1:35 p.m. (1500m)
ZAGS RUN AMONG ELITE COMPETITION:
- After a weekend at home for the Northwest Scoring Clash, the Gonzaga track programs will send a select number of runners to the Mt. SAC and Oregon Relays Thursday and Friday.
- Six Zags will travel to the Mt. SAC Relays in Norwalk, Calif.
- Gonzaga will have 23 student-athletes competing Friday in Eugene at the Oregon Relays.
ABOUT THE MEETS:
- The 57th annual Mt. Sac Relays is the largest track and field competition in the world with over 13,500 competitors competing over three weekends and six days.
- This marks the first year the Mt. SAC Relays will not be run at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, due to a $62-million dollar renovation with intent to bid for the 2020 US Olympic Track and Field Trials.
- This year's Mt. SAC Relays will be run at Falcon Stadium at Cerritos College.
- The Oregon Relays combine the Northwest's premier High School meet with the Northwest's premier College/Pro meet to form a two-day, super meet with over 70 teams and thousands of athletes.
- Historic Hayward Field stakes claim as a place on the historic track stadiums list.
LAST YEAR AT THE MEETS:
- Shelby Mills broke her own 3,000-meter steeplechase mark at 10:18.42. - The top three 10k times in men's program history happened last year at Mt. SAC.
- Troy Fraley finished the 10,000 meters at 30:07.13, placing 14th in his heat, but breaking the school record. - About 30 minutes later, Willie Milam topped Fraley's time with a 29:49.78 finish. The senior placed 16th in the extremely fast heat, but became the first Bulldog to ever finish the 10,000 meters under 30 minutes. - Amelia Evans raced to the third-fastest 10,000-meter time in program history. She finished 12th in her heat with a time of 35:07.03. - Jessica Mildes cruised to a new 5,000-meter school record at the Oregon Relays at 16:16.88. - Maggie Jones ran a 16:27.86, the third fastest time in GU history and a personal record by 13 seconds. - Andy Phillips ran the second-fastest 800-meter time in program history in a second place finish at the Oregon Relays. His time of 1:51.75 matched Joe LaMontagne's second-best mark in school history. - Nick Roche's 5,000-meter time of 14:19.43 at the Mt. SAC Relays was fourth on the GU all-time list.
