Round 3 Tee Times
DANVILLE, Calif. -- Gonzaga's Ryan Gaske joined Sean Walsh in the top-20 after the second round of the West Coast Conference Championships on the Lakeside Course at Blackhawk Country Club.
Gaske finished with the Zags' best round Tuesday. He carded a 73 (+1) and is two-over (147) entering the final round. The junior is tied for 18th on the leaderboard. After three bogeys through the first nine holes, he was one-under with four birdies over the final nine holes.
"Ryan managed his game pretty well today and was our only player to improve on his first round," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "It was a tough day for us. The course played more difficult, but we made it tougher than it was. We had six double-bogies, along with a triple, and we doubled our total score over our final four holes. The two things we've struggled the most with this year have been our Par-5 scoring and finishing our rounds strong. Yesterday, it was the par five's and today it was our Par-5 scoring again, along with our finish."
The Bulldogs moved from eighth to seventh in the team standings. Gonzaga was 14-over (302) in the second round and is 19-over (595) in the tournament.
Walsh is tied for ninth on the leaderboard. He slid from fifth after a four-over (76) round Tuesday. The senior is one-over (145) going into the third round.
"Sean got off to a slow start but did a great job of battling back to get to one-under after 13 holes," Gray said. "Unfortunately, he got caught up in the heavy rough on No. 6 and ended up making a triple-bogey along with a couple other bogeys throughout those final five holes."
David Ganz was also four-over (76) with nine pars and three birdies in Round 2. His two-round total is 151 (+7). The sophomore is 30th entering the final round.
Angus Montgomery and Tyler Munetake both were five-over (77) on Day 2. Montgomery is tied for 31st at eight-over (152), while Munetake is nine-over (153) and tied for 35th. Montgomery made seven pars through the first nine holes Tuesday and made three birdies on the final nine holes. Munetake made 13 pars in the second round, and has 23 pars through 36 holes, which is nearly the most in the tournament.
"We have one more round this season to get it all put together and play the way we're capable of playing," Gray said. "We'll go out tomorrow and try hard to finish the season on a positive note."
Saint Mary's has a 22-stroke lead entering the third and final round. The Gaels are 17-under (559) and the only team under-par in the tournament. Pepperdine is second at five-over (581). SMC has four golfers in the top-15 led by Jonathan De Los Reyes in first. De Los Reyes fired a 67 (-5) in Round 2 and is 13-under (131) after 36 holes. He has a six-stroke lead over San Francisco's Seb Crookall-Nixon.
Munetake starts play for the Zags Wednesday. He tees off with the first group of the day at 7:50 a.m. Walsh is the final GU golfer to tee off at 8:34 a.m. All golfers will begin play on the first hole in the final round.
