May 17, 2016 SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Fifteen Gonzaga women's rowing student-athletes were honored by the West Coast Conference, including Anna Johnson, Cheryl Murbach and Madeleine Verspieren on the WCC All-Academic Team, league officials announced Tuesday.
Johnson and Murbach each earned their first career league honor, while Verspieren was on the Honorable Mention list last season. Gonzaga's three on the All-Academic Team was tied for the most in the league with LMU, Portland and San Diego, while Creighton had two and Santa Clara had one.
Johnson is a sophomore nursing major and sports a 3.61 grade-point average, Murbach is a sophomore Human Physiology major with a 3.79 GPA and Verspieren is a senior accounting major with a 3.69 GPA.
Gonzaga also placed 12 more student-athletes on the honorable mention list. That was the second-highest total to Creighton's 16 and was the only other school with at least 10. GU's honorees include Devyn Bell, Isabelle Belzil, Megan Dennison, Micailah Donner, Shaylee Kieffer, Olivia Marsh, Lily Rorick, Hailey Rousseau, Kara Soucek, Isabella Spies, Ingrid Stansberry and Maddie Turbes.
Bell, Kieffer, Stansberry and Turbes are all return honorees to the Honorable Mention list for Gonzaga.
