SPOKANE, Wash.--For the first time since 2011, three Gonzaga University baseball players earned All-West Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association Wednesday as Jeff Bohling, Brandon Bailey, and Tyler Frost each
A native of Bellevue, Wash., Bohling was named First Team All-West Region. He started all 57 games at third base for Gonzaga, posting a slash line of .298/.360/.522. The West Coast Conference Player of the Year topped GU in slugging (.522), runs scored (51), RBIs (50), and home runs (8), finishing among the conference's Top 10 in each category. A redshirt junior, Bohling more than doubled his career highs in every offensive category while setting or equaling single-game highs in most. Bohling is the first Bulldog to receive First Team All-Region honors since Marco Gonzales earned the honor in 2012.
Bailey and Frost, meanwhile, were voted to the Region's Second Team. Bailey was the squad's Friday night starter, posting a 10-3 record and 2.42 ERA. The Broomfield, Colo., native finished third in school history in single-season strikeouts with 125, 17 of which came May 26 against BYU in the WCC Championships. Not only did his 125 strikeouts lead the conference, but he finished ninth in the nation in the category. A junior, Bailey also earned First Team All-WCC honors and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2016 MLB Draft by Oakland.
Frost made 55 starts, more than half of those in center field. He posted a slash line of .309/.377/.483, collecting 71 hits -- 24 for extra bases -- while driving in 49 runs and scoring 35 himself. Also a member of the WCC's First Team, the Phoenix native ranked fourth in the conference in RBIs. Frost
The Bulldogs last placed three players on All-Region teams in 2011 when Cameron Edman took First Team honors while Marco Gonzales and Cody Martin earned spots on the region's Second Team.
