June 9, 2016 SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga women's rowing senior Kara Soucek was named the program's first-ever First Team All-American on Thursday with the announcement of the College Rowing Coaches Association Pocock All-America Teams.
Soucek, a two-time West Coast Conference Rower of the Year, was also named a CRCA All-Region 5 honoree for the third time in her career earlier this month. The McCall, Idaho, native earned the regional award in 2013 and 2014 as well.
Soucek rows in the stroke seat of the Varsity 8 boat, helping her squad win the WCC title for the third time in the last four seasons and advance to their third NCAA Championship in that span. At the NCAAs, Soucek helped her squad finish 16th as a team, the highest-ever for Gonzaga.
Not only was that finish the highest in school history, but Gonzaga's Varsity 8 boat finished a program-best 14th at the NCAAs. During the year, the Zags also reached a program-high No. 15 national ranking while remaining in the top 20 consistently.
In addition to Soucek's individual WCC honor, she was named to the All-WCC First Team alongside teammates Brooklyn Beeler, Devyn Bell and Ingrid Stansberry.
