July 1, 2016 SPOKANE, Wash. -- Former Gonzaga standout Kyle Wiltjer made the Houston Rockets' summer league roster the team released Friday.
Houston's first summer league game is in Las Vegas on July 8, at 5 p.m. Each of the 24 teams in Las Vegas are guaranteed five games, with three preliminary contests before a seeded tournament that concludes with the championships on July 18.
Wiltjer led GU with 20.4 points per game and his 736 total points this season is the fourth-highest single-season point total in program history. He also led the team with 90 three-pointers, tied for sixth all-time at Gonzaga, and was second on the team in rebounding at 6.3 per game. In two years at Gonzaga, he scored 1,374 points, which ranks in the schools top 20 all-time. Wiltjer also earned All-WCC First Team and NABC All-District First Team honors.
As a senior, Wiltjer was named to several national player of the year watch lists, including the Naismith Trophy, the Wooden Award and the Robertson Trophy. Wiltjer was active in community service initiatives including outreach to Sacred Heart Children's Hospital, the Union Gospel Mission and contributed to a Habitat for Humanity Build. A member of Gonzaga's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Wiltjer was involved with Nike's N7 Foundation, an initiative to involve and engage the local Native American community.
Wiltjer was recently named WCC Mike Gilleran male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was named an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, a Senior CLASS All-American, DI-AAA ADA Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year, and WCC All-Academic first teamer.
