Aug. 19, 2016 SPOKANE, Wash. â€" Nick Nolan and Ben DuBois both represented the Gonzaga men's golf team well at the Northwest Open recently in Walla Walla, Wash.
Nolan placed sixth in the 153-golfer field. He had the third-best finish as an amateur in the tournament. The incoming freshman finished eight under par (208) at the Wine Valley Golf Club. He carded a 67 (- 5) in the opening round. Nolan was bogey-free in the first round with five birdies and 13 pars. He ended the tournament with 14 birdies. The Bellingham, Wash. native, was even-par (72) in Round 2, and three-under (69) in the final round.
DuBois was 27th overall and tied for 10th among amateurs. He was one-under (215) in the event. The upcoming junior was two-under (70) on Day 1, even (72) in the second round, and one-over (73) on the last day. He eagled the 525-yard Par 5 10th hole in the final round.
The Northwest Open is a significant part of Northwest golf history. The list of past champions reads like a who's who in Pacific Northwest Golf. Sixteen members of the Pacific Northwest Section's Hall of Fame are Northwest Open Champions. The Northwest Open has been played since 1901.
