MOSCOW, Idaho -- Idaho used a late goal in regulation to force overtime in a 2-2 tie with the Gonzaga women's soccer team at Guy Wicks Field Friday.
The Bulldogs' (1-1-1) Aliyah Miller opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. She headed in a perfect ball from Sarah Carter off of a free-kick. It was Carter's fifth career assist and second of the season.
Idaho would even the match three minutes into the second half. Clara Gomez scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Megan Goo.
In the 78th minute, Karley Baggerly brought in a pass from freshman Sophia Viviano and dribbled through the Vandal defense, before striking the ball into the net. Baggerly is now third on the program's all-time list with 19 career goals.
Idaho's Kayla Watanabe scored her first goal of the season with just two minutes left in regulation. Josilyn Daggs and Sophia French were credited with double assist off of a play that started on a throw-in.
Baggerly took five shots in the game, placing three on goal. The senior now has 133 shots in her career, which is sixth in program history. Viviano had three shots versus Idaho. Sarah Swanson made four saves for the Zags.
Baggerly was playing against her sister, Olivia, a junior midfielder for the Vandals. Olivia took a pair of shots Friday.
The Vandals' (1-1-1) Elexis Schlossarek also had three shots on goal, taking a game-high six shots. Goo had four shots. Torell Stewart stopped six shots in the Idaho net.
"This was a very physical game going against a team who is very good at their game plan on their home field" GU Head Coach Amy Edwards said. "Karley's tremendous goal put us ahead and we must gain more focus in closing out the game. I was proud of our grit and perseverance today overall. We continue to grow each game so I have no doubt this team will continue to grow moving forward in preparation for our next game."
Idaho outshot GU, 25-17, but the Zags had eight shots on frame, compared to the Vandals' six. The Bulldogs had 11 of the match's 21 corner kicks.
Gonzaga welcomes Washington State (1-1-0) in the Zags' home-opener of the season. The Cougars are coming off of a 1-0 upset win over No. 13 Santa Clara Thursday. Sunday's start time is scheduled for 6 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
