MANDALUYONG, Philippines - Gonzaga sophomore Bianca Pagdanganan and GU freshman Diana Araneta both competed in the Philippine Ladies Open, January 11-13, at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong, Philippines. Pagdanganan won the title, leading wire-to-wire and firing a final round 69, three-under par. Pagdanganan set a new record for the lowest three-day score in tournament history with a -16 finish on Friday afternoon.
Both competed in the Open Division with Pagdanganan taking first and Araneta finishing 17th at +16. Pagdanganan was the day one and two leader shooting a six-under 66 in round one and seven-under 65 in round two. Both rounds were the low scores of the day, and her final round 69 tied the lowest round of the day. Araneta fired 77, 78, and 77 in her three rounds.
"I am in shock, this is a huge tournament," Pagdanganan told CNN Philippines. "After the second day I told myself, if it is meant to be it will be, and it did happen.
The course featured wet and rainy conditions and the tournament represents the country's premier championship. The field features former national champions and the most elite amateur golfers hailing from the Philippines. Pagdanganan and Araneta are both from Quezon City, Philippines.
