MBB Cracks Top Five in Both Major Polls

Jan. 2, 2017

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga men's basketball team climbed to No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll and No. 5 in the Associated Press Top 25 Monday.

The Zags opened West Coast Conference play with victories over Pepperdine and Pacific last week. GU (14-0, 2-0 West Coast Conference) returns to the top five in both polls for the first time since being ranked second in the coaches' poll and third in the AP poll on Feb. 23, 2015.

Gonzaga opened this season at No. 13 in the coaches' poll and 14th in the AP poll. The Bulldogs are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the country. Top-ranked Villanova (14-0) and No. 3/2 Baylor (13-0) are the other two programs.

The No. 5/4 Zags travel to San Francisco (11-4, 1-1 WCC) Thursday, before playing at Portland (9-5, 2-0) Saturday. Thursday's game at USF is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on ESPN2.
