
Gonzaga Falls at No. 17 Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. -- The Gonzaga women's soccer team was shutout 4-0 at No. 17 Pepperdine Sunday.
The Waves (10-2-2, 4-0-0 West Coast Conference) remained unbeaten in league play and still have not allowed a goal in WCC action. Pepperdine is unbeaten in their last eight contests, going 7-0-1 during that stretch.
Pepperdine's defense forced its ninth shutout of the season. The Waves have not allowed a goal in the last 524 minutes.
Bri Visalli recorded a hat trick for Pepperdine. She scored her eighth, ninth and 10th goals of the season in the Waves' sixth straight win. Five of Visalli's seven shots were on goal against the Zags (10-4-1, 2-3-0 WCC).
Pepperdine outshot GU, 21-7. The Waves placed 13 shots on frame, while the Bulldogs had three. All seven of Gonzaga's shots were taken in the first half.
Brie Welch opened the scoring in the seventh minute. She kicked in a rebound after Visalli's shot struck the crossbar. Alex Marmureanu and Meagan Harbison were credited with assists on Visalli's first goal in the 19th minute. Visalli kicked in a penalty kick in the 57th minute, before scoring on a pass from Joelle Anderson in the 66th minute.
Isabel Jones made six saves for Gonzaga, before Sarah Swanson stopped three shots in 14 minutes of play. Brielle Preece had three saves for Pepperdine.
Gonzaga visits Portland (4-10-1, 1-4-0) Saturday at 7 p.m. The Pilots won in double overtime at Loyola Marymount Sunday, 2-1.
