Three Zags, Two Duos Reach Bulldog Classic Semifinals

SPOKANE, Wash.--The Gonzaga men's tennis team continued play at its own Bulldog Classic Saturday, advancing two pairs and three individuals into main bracket semifinals inside The Stevens Center.
Both Zag duos in the main doubles bracket won Saturday to reach the final four. Vincent Rettke and Kyle Everly picked up an 8-5 win over Montana State's Joaquim Espinoza and Grant Wood for their deepest pairs run of the season. Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit also won Saturday morning, beating Montana's Max Korkh and Ludvig Hallgren 8-6.
In consolation doubles play, Simon Homedes Dualde and Matthew Perkins combined to beat a pair from Seattle U 6-3. Those two will play in the consolation semifinal round on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Three Bulldogs progressed to main bracket semifinals in singles play as well. Feit won his lone A Singles match of the day, dispatching Montana's Yannick Schmidl 6-4, 6-1 in the quarters. O'Sullivan too advanced, this time downing West Coast Conference foe Tom Hann of Portland in three hard-fought sets 6-7 (9), 6-2, 7-6 (2). Feit and O'Sullivan are on opposite sides of the draw, meaning they would meet in the final if both win their semifinal match.
In B Singles, Perkins extended his run in what is his first home collegiate tournament. The freshman from West Linn, Ore., picked up two wins to reach the semifinal, downing Montana's Ludvig Hallgren in three sets before rolling through Idaho's Lucas Coutinho 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Four other Zags entered the day still active in their respective singles brackets: Rettke and Everly lost their quarterfinals matches after early singles victories, and both Emilio Moreno and Bryan Husin fell in the second round of their flights.
Gonzaga will wrap up play at the Bulldog Classic Oct. 29. Doubles matches begin at 9:00 a.m., and singles play starts at 10:30, again inside The Stevens Center.
