SPOKANE, Wash.-The Gonzaga men's tennis team won the doubles point Saturday, but a tough singles session saw Sacramento State rally for a 4-3 win at The Stevens Center.

The day started off well for the Zags as they won the doubles point with two pairs victories. Vincent Rettke and Kyle Everly started their No. 2 contest by winning the first four games, eventually downing Dom Miller and Chris Clayton 6-2. On court three, Ronzai Saurombe and Simón Homedes Dualde clinched the point with a similar 6-2 victory. The No. 1 doubles contest was left unfinished.

In singles, though, the Hornets rallied, tying the dual at 1-all with a win on court one. The rest of the matches were hotly contested with three going to third sets and four seeing set tiebreaks. Sam Feit played one of those tiebreaks, winning the first set 7-6 after trailing Kasparas Zemaitelis 1-4 in the break. Feit won the tiebreak's final six points, and then the freshman Zag capped off his win with a 6-4 second set. That win put the Zags back on top 2-1 in the dual.

Sacramento State once again tied up the team contest after a win on court six, but Rettke returned the lead to Gonzaga with a three-set victory on court three. Facing Miller once again, Rettke blanked the Hornet in the first set, but Miller won the second 3-6. The Zag freshman stayed close throughout the third set, pulling ahead at 6-5 by holding his serve. He then broke Miller's for the match win and the point.

Again, the Hornets tied the match with a win at No. 4 singles, where Saurombe battled Sacramento State's Louis Chabut. Chabut won the first set 6-3, but Saurombe battled back to take the second in a tiebreak. The Hornet took a big lead in the third and withstood the Zag senior's two-game rally, winning the frame 6-3.

With the score tied at 3-all, the dual came down to Homedes Dualde's contest on court five. The GU freshman won the first set 3-6 over foe Hermont Legaspi, but the Hornet took the second in a close tiebreak at 9-7. In the third, Legaspi earned a break to go up 3-2. A few games later, Homedes Dualde broke Legaspi's serve to tie the frame at 5-all, but the Hornet responded with a break of his own, eventually taking the set and winning the dual for Sacramento State.

The Zags (2-3) now have nearly a month off from matches before resuming the homestand. Gonzaga next hosts Radford at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 9. They'll welcome Air Force to The Stevens Center a day later.
