Perkins Named to Bob Cousy Award Watch List

Award goes to nation’s best collegiate point guard

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Gonzaga men's basketball's Josh Perkins was named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List Monday.

Named after Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor is in its 16th year recognizes the top point guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates. Villanova's Jalen Brunson won in 2018.

By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2019 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Cousy and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2019 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles on April 12.

Last season, Perkins helped guide the Zags to a 32-5 record, and the program's fourth straight appearance in the Sweet 16. He was named First Team All-West Coast Conference after averaging 5.3 assists per game, which ranked fourth in the league. The redshirt senior had a 3.3 assist-to-turnover ratio during conference play, which led the WCC. He dished out five or more assists in 22 games last season, while scoring in double-digits 27 times. Perkins averaged 12.3 points per game. He also averaged a team-high 1.2 steals per game, which ranked eighth in the conference.
