Ulkekul’s Late Goal Secures Draw at USF

Gonzaga remains unbeaten in last four contests

SAN FRANCISCO – Gonzaga women's soccer grabbed a point on the road with a 1-1 draw at San Francisco Friday.
 
Jodi Ulkekul scored the equalizer for the Zags (8-3-3, 3-1-1 West Coast Conference) in the 81st minute. With the draw, GU remained unbeaten in its last four matches.
 
After a scoreless first half, San Francisco's Samantha Jehnings scored her 10th goal of the season in the 56th minute. Mia Villegas and Miciah Madison were credited with assists on the header.
 
Ulkekul's goal came on a strike from 25 yards out with nine minutes remaining in regulation. Her fourth goal of the season, and seventh in her career, came unassisted.
 
San Francisco had a 16-15 edge in shots, but both teams place five shots on goal. The Dons (9-5-2, 2-1-2 WCC) outshot GU, 9-2, in the first half, but the Bulldogs had a 13-7 advantage in shots after halftime. The Zags' India Jencks took a game-high five shots, with two on frame. USF took seven corner kicks to Gonzaga's four.
 
Isabel Jones made four saves in the net for the Bulldogs, while Molly Eby had four saves for San Francisco.
 
In the 26th all-time meeting between the programs, this was the first-ever draw. The Dons now have a 17-8-1 advantage in the series, including 10-2-1 at USF.
 
Gonzaga travels to No. 7 Santa Clara (13-2-1, 4-1-0) Sunday at 1 p.m. The Broncos are tied atop the league standings after escaping with a 3-2 overtime win at home over Portland Friday.
