Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Seventh-ranked Santa Clara outshot the Gonzaga women's soccer team, 20-5, in a 1-0 shutout win at home Sunday.
The Zags had their four-game unbeaten streak snapped, but are still unbeaten in seven of their last nine matches. SCU (14-2-1, 5-1-0 West Coast Conference) remains in a tie atop of the league standings with the victory.
The Broncos controlled the possession, and had a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. SCU took nine corner kicks, to Gonzaga's four.
Isabel Jones made eight saves in the GU net.
Jodi Ulkekul took two shots for the Bulldogs, while
Ariana Pumpelly had the shot on goal.
Santa Clara's Maria Sanchez scored the lone goal of the game in the eighth minute. Her fifth goal of the season came unassisted.
Gonzaga (8-4-3, 3-2-1 WCC) returns home for the final three games of the regular season beginning with Pepperdine Friday. The Waves (9-6-1, 4-1-1) have won three straight games, and are unbeaten in nine of their last 10. They rallied for a 2-1 home win over Loyola Marymount Saturday.
