SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Four Gonzaga volleyball players earned West Coast Conference All-Academic honors Tuesday.

Jenna Kuehn,
Sarah Penner and
Faith Smith were all named All-Academic Honorable Mention. It marks the fifth-straight year that at least four Zags have received the honor.
The honor is the second for both Kuehn and Smith; Kuehn was named to the WCC All-Academic Team a season ago while Smith was honorable mention. Kuehn, a junior from Eugene, Ore., carries a 3.54 cumulative GPA as a nursing major. This season, she eclipsed the 1,000 career assists mark, finishing the season with 1,333 career assists. She led the Bulldogs in assists with a 5.31 per set average and ranked second in service aces with 24. Kuehn finished with double-figure assists 21 times on the season including a career-high 52 in GU's five-set win over California on Sept. 7. Kuehn also finished with 10 double-doubles on the season.
Smith, a senior majoring in kinesiology and physical education, boasts a 3.48 cumulative GPA. On the court, Smith became only the third player in Gonzaga program history to record 2,000 assists and 1,000 digs; she reached that mark with her first dig against Portland on Nov. 20 and finishes her career with 2,337 assists and 1,004 digs. Smith finished with double-figure assists in 19 matches and recorded six double-doubles on the year averaging 4.21 assists and 2.00 digs. She ranked second on the squad in assists with 442, second in digs with 210 and third in service aces with 22.
Gray collected her first career All-Academic honorable mention nod after posting a 3.85 cumulative GPA while majoring in psychology. The sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz., posted 177 kills on the season for a 2.06 kills per set average, good for third on the squad. She finished with double-figure kills five times on the season including a career-high tying 17 at Montana on Sept. 1. Gray hit over .300 six times on the year including a season-high .750 against San Francisco, connecting for three kills off four attempts with no errors.
Penner collected her second all-conference honor of the year after being named All-WCC honorable mention on Monday. The sophomore from Sherwood, Ore., carries a 3.64 GPA as an undeclared arts and sciences major. On the floor, Penner led the Zags in kills, attempts and points with 313 kills, 871 attempts and 359 total points. She started all but four matches at outside hitter for the Zags, and she finished in double-figure kills 17 times on the year with four double-doubles. Penner also ranked third in total blocks with 66.0.
In order to be considered for the WCC's All-Academic team, a student-athlete must: (1) Own a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average based on the most recently completed term at the time of the nomination; (2) Be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials; (3) Have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing with at least one year in residence completed at the nominating institution; (4) Participate in at least 50 percent of the institution's completed contests.
