SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga women's soccer student-athlete
Ariana Pumpelly was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday.
Pumpelly received the final weekly conference honor of the season, and was the first Zag to earn the recognition this year. Teammates
India Jencks and
Madeline Gotta received the honor last season.
In her final game in a Gonzaga uniform, Pumpelly help the Zag defense record their seventh shutout of a season in a 1-0 win over Portland Saturday. The win marked Gonzaga's first-ever win over Portland, and it was the Bulldogs' 10th win of the season as Gonzaga limited the Pilots to just three shots on goal over 90 minutes.
Pumpelly has been a centerpiece in a defense that has allowed only 18 goals this season, which ranks second in the West Coast Conference. With the shutout victory, Gonzaga earns its second-best ever finish in the WCC standings after taking fourth overall with a 5-2-2 record.
Pumpelly started in 52 of her 69 career appearances in a Gonzaga uniform. The Tualatin, Ore., native scored her first collegiate goal against Saint Mary's this season.
Also Nominated: Elise Flake, BYU; Maleah Milner, Saint Mary's; Maria Sanchez, Santa Clara
