ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Gonzaga men's basketball's
Brandon Clarke and
Rui Hachimura were named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason list, announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, Friday. The award is presented to the national player of the year.
Clarke's averaging 16.8 points, ninth in the West Coast Conference, and a team-high 8.2 rebounds per game, which ranks
fourth in the conference. His 39 blocks rank third in the country, and his 3.25 blocks per game are fifth in the nation and tops the WCC. The redshirt junior ranks seventh in the nation, shooting 69.5 percent field. He is second in the WCC making 69.6
percent from inside-the-arc.
Hachimura is currently averaging a team-high 21.6 points per game. His average ranks seventh in program history for highest scoring average in a season, and the most points per game since Adam Morrison's 28.1 points per outing in the 2005-06
season. The Toyama, Japan, native ranks third in the conference with 21.6 points per game. He was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Maui Invitational.
Balloting for the USBWA's All-America Team, All-District Teams and the association's individual awards will take place in March. The Oscar Robertson Trophy will be presented at a news conference at the Final Four in Minneapolis, Minn.
The No. 8/9 Zags (10-2) host Denver tonight at 6. The game will be broadcast on KHQ and ROOT Northwest.
