The Gold Rush

THE TOURNAMENT:
- The Gold Rush is a 14-team field with host Long Beach State welcoming West Coast Conference schools Gonzaga, BYU, and Santa Clara. The tournament is three rounds played over two days.
- Last season the field featured 14 teams with Sophie Hausmann of Idaho winning and San Jose State taking the team title.

THE RUSH:
- The Zags have competed at the Gold Rush five times prior, and posted some great results. GU won the tournament in 2014, with Alice Kim winning the individual title at one-under par. She had three birdies in the final round and nine in the tournament.
- The Zags played the tournament at Old Ranch Country Club last year, taking fifth at +28, the best team score in their history at the event. Nina Novilla fired a one-under second-round 71, and Jessica Mangrobang scored +1 in her second round. Novilla took 15th, with that being her best career round and finish.
- Jena Gao played well at the event in 2016, finishing at +16. She is the only current Zag to have played in the tournament more than once.

THE FALL:
- The Zags competed in four events this past fall and the last two as individuals, as the injury bug showed up later in the season.
- Jessica Mangrobang led the Zags with a 76.58 stroke average, almost a full stroke below her career average. Newcomer Francesca Santoni was right behind her at 77.17. They each carded 73 as their low rounds for the season.
- Jena Gao fired the best round for the Zags with a 72 in the first round of the Coeur d'Alene Invitational, which GU hosted at the Coeur d'Alene Resort. Overall, Mangrobang had eight rounds at 75 or lower, as she played 12 rounds.

THE SPRING:
- GU will tee it up five times this spring season, returning to The Gold Rush and West Coast Conference Championships from a season ago. The Meadow Club Women's Collegiate, Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate, and Cowgirl Classic are the new events on the schedule.

"We are looking forward to getting on the course," Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. "This young, inexperienced group has so much to learn that each tournament will be a big step for us. We are traveling zero seniors or juniors."
