Varsity Four Leads The Zags Against OSU

EUGENE, Ore. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs competed in a dual against Oregon State on Saturday on Dexter Lake in Eugene, Ore.

Every race was competitive with GU taking wins the varsity four and second varsity four. The varsity four defeated the Beavers by 11 seconds at 7:34.7 and the second varsity four ran unopposed at 8:06.0. Both were top times for the crews on the season.

The Zags' top crew was seven seconds back of OSU at 6:37.0. The second varsity eight was even closer, just four seconds behind at 6:49.4. The novice eight was also four seconds back at 7:16.1. The weather was fantastic all day making for flat water racing conditions, as the varsity eight and second varsity eight both put down their fastest times this year.

"It was a great day of racing, the conditions were amazing," Gonzaga head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "The morning started with a really aggressive race in the varsity four. The subsequent races were all really similar with the OSU crews making a big push in the middle 1000 meters that we couldn't keep up with today. We know where we have to improve and will continue training to get better."

In two weeks, the Zags will get their West Coast Conference Championship course prep in at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, Calif.
