SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference is pleased to announce the 2017-18 West Coast Conference Women's Rowing All-Academic Team. Seventeen student-athletes were named to the first-team, including seven returners from the 2016-17 team.
The Zags had three selections to the WCC All-Academic First Team and nine Honorable Mention selections. Isabelle Belzil and Olivia Lada, who both won the WCC Championship with the varsity eight, and Marie Hayman, who led the second varsity eight to a WCC Championship as the coxswain, were selected to the all-academic first team. Belzil, a senior, has a 3.69 GPA while majoring in business administration with a marketing concentration. Lada, a senior academically, has a 3.87 GPA, majoring in history and minoring in English. Hayman, a senior, has a 3.68 GPA, majoring in sport management with a general business minor.
10 of this year's 17 honorees turned in a 3.80 GPA or better, led by All-WCC rower Clare Adams of San Diego with a 3.98. Five more, including Hayman and Lada of WCC champion Gonzaga, achieved between a 3.80 and 3.89. Both Hayman and Lada return to the list as juniors after making it last season.
The nine honorable mention selections for GU included, Emma Delucchi, 3.36 GPA and computer science major, Lindey English, 3.32 GPA and nursing major, Casey Harder, 3.21 GPA and environmental studies major and economics and sustainable business minor, Alexa Jadallah, 3.29 GPA and business administration major, Natalie O'Hare, 3.36 GPA and psychology, kinesiology, and physical education major with a fitness specialist minor, Lauren English, 3.61 GPA and nursing major, Caroline Maguire, 3.45 GPA, Alexandra Pinkley, 3.24 GPA and biology major, and Isabella Spies, 3.56 GPA and political science and environment studies major with a philosophy minor.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team. 70 WCC student-athletes met the academic criteria for women's rowing this year.
