PEORIA, Ill. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs opened the season on Friday night, tying Bradley 2-2 in double overtime in Peoria, Ill. The Zags remained unbeaten at Bradley in three trips.
Joe Corner scored his second career goal in the 31st minute, equalizing the Braves goal scored in the 18th minute. Quinn Liebmann setup Corner as he scored from 12 yards out in the upper right corner. Freshman Demitrius Kigeya scored his first career goal as a Zag in the 41st minute, cleaning up a loose ball on the edge of the box from Matt Kintzle. Bradley tied the game in the 70th minute on a penalty kick. Kintzle fired a shot one minute into the second overtime that was knocked down as the teams ended tied after 110 minutes.
"Bradley is a very athletic team and very difficult to break down," Gonzaga head coach Paul Meehan said. "It took a special effort on our part to match their work ethic and grit, and I thought we scored two outstanding goals. I think we will look back and use this effort as our standard when it comes to battling and grinding. I know I speak for the players, in that despite being exhausted and sore, we are very eager to get home and play Monday night."
GU led in shots, 14-13, and 9-5 in shots on goal. The Zags also had nine corners compared to six for BU. Kigeya, Corner, and Isaiah Jackson all fired three shots each for GU. Ben Willis made three saves in goal for the Zags.
