Zags Release Fall Schedule

Bulldogs to compete in four fall regattas

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga men's rowing team has released their 2018 fall schedule. The schedule includes four regattas, highlighted once again by the Head of the Spokane on the Spokane River on October 13.  Gonzaga head coach Dan Gehn is in his 25th season leading the Zags.

"I like this group of guys. This group is young but driven," Gehn said.  "There is a great group of returners who have set some lofty goals for this year and we have added some good, experienced athletes. From what I hear, everyone is fired up to get going again."

The Head of the Spokane home regatta kicks off the season for the Zags as they face Washington State. Gonzaga swept the races, winning the varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight, and varsity four events, last year. The Zags and Cougars will race again with the date to be determined at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River in Pullman in the Head of the Snake. The event was cancelled last year due to high winds.

The Zags' varsity eight and second varsity eight boats will then travel to Gold River, Calif., for the Head of the American on Lake Natoma on October 27, the site of their conference championship, the Western Sprints. GU's top boat finished fifth in the Head of the American last year, after taking seventh the year prior. GU will head to the Head of the Lake on November 4 on Lake Union and the Montlake Cut in Seattle. The varsity eight and second varsity eight took fourth last year in tough weather and delays.

The Zags' spring schedule will be released at a later date.
