CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sam Heilman recorded three assists and
Sophia Viviano had two assists and a goal in Gonzaga women's soccer's 3-1 win at Oregon State Friday.
The Zags (2-0-1) jumped out to an impressive start in the first 10 minutes. Just over three minutes into the game,
India Jencks scored her second goal of the season off of a header. Heilman and Viviano were credited with assists on a ball that was played to the back post and Jencks headed it back across for the easy finish.
Less than five minutes later, Heilman recorded another assist, this one to Viviano. A pass was played in from the byline, and Viviano headed it in. It was her ninth career goal, but first of the season. Jencks' 11 career goals is one away from Top-10 in program history.
Callie Best added a goal in the 69
th minute. She calmly kicked in a deflection in the box for her ninth career goal. Viviano and Heilman both had assists on the score.
The Beavers' (0-5-0) Helena Brown scored her first goal of the season in the 89
th minute. She lifted a shot over the GU keeper to the corner of the net.
Gonzaga outshot the Beavers, 12-4, in the first half, placing five shots on goal. The Bulldogs finished with an 18-8 advantage in shots, with six going on goal. OSU placed three shots on frame.
Isabel Jones made two saves for Gonzaga. Oregon State's Bridgette Skiba finished with three saves.
The Bulldogs travel to Oregon Sunday at 3 p.m. The Ducks (3-1-1) beat Dartmouth Friday, 2-0. Sunday's game will have live video and stats on GoZags.com.
