PLOVDIV, Bulgaria – Gonzaga men's rower Charley Nordin is currently competing with the Mixed PR3 4+ boat at the 2018 Paralympic World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria for Team USA.
His squad won their heat yesterday by a comfortable 11 seconds over Canada at 7:12.840. Next up is the repechages on Thursday.
Nordin, a senior on the Zags this year, rowed with the second varsity eight boat last year and shattered three lower vertebrae in his back prior to coming to GU. He was a walk-on to the program and had to learn everything from scratch. His injury does not allow him to run, but he has excelled in the sport of rowing.
His ultimate goal is the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, he told the Gonzaga Bulletin in March of this year.
