FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Gonzaga women's soccer team recorded their first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at Colorado State Thursday.
The Zags' (4-2-1)
Madeline Gotta and
Samantha Heilman both found the back of the net in the first 13 minutes of the game to give GU the fast start. It was the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Colorado State outshot the Bulldogs 12-7, and had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
Isabel Jones made five saves in the net for Gonzaga.
Just over four minutes into the game, Gotta struck a ball from outside of the penalty area for her second goal of the season. Heilman was credited with her fifth assist of the season.
Heilman was on the receiving end in the 13
th minute. The junior scored her first collegiate goal off of
Gabriela Maas' second assist of the season.
Gotta led GU with three shots, while Colorado State's Hannah Gerdin took a game-high four shots. Hunter Peifer had one save for CSU.
Both teams took five corner kicks in the match. The Rams (2-3-2) finished with 22 of the game's 35 fouls.
Gonzaga plays its third straight road game during a six-game stretch away from Spokane at Air Force Sunday. The Falcons (1-2-1) host Houston Thursday night. Sunday's game will have live video and stats on GoZags.com.
