Series Notes:
- Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount meet for the 63rd time and the 32nd time in Spokane.
- The Bulldogs are 2-2 against the Lions under Diane Nelson.
- The last three matches in the series have been 3-0 sweeps, 2-1 in favor of LMU. In the last four seasons, the Lions hold a 5-3 advantage.
- In the last meeting, Loyola Marymount swept Gonzaga 3-0 in Los Angeles on Nov. 2, 2017.
SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYMOUNT:
- The Lions are 10-1 overall this season and are currently on a seven-match win streak. As a squad, LMU ranks second in the nation in three categories: kills per set (15.9), hitting percentage (.315) and assists per set (15.05). The Lions also rank sixth in the nation in aces per set with 2.03. Defensively, LMU averages 13.1 digs per set and 1.4 blocks per set.
- Savannah Slattery and Sara Kovac lead the Lions offensive attack, averaging 4.00 and 3.95 kills per set, respectively. Tess Reid adds an NCAA-leading 12.98 assists per set.
- Kekai Whitford leads LMU with a team-high 4.15 digs per set. Three players average at least 0.6 blocks per set: Emma Johnson (0.65), Meredith Teague (0.64) and Alexis Morrow (0.60).
- LMU is undefeated in both three- and four-set matches with its lone loss on the season coming in five sets against then No. 24 Cal Poly (25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 28-30, 15-12).
- The Lions were picked to finish third in the WCC this season, the best preseason mark for the Lions since earning a share of second in 2004. Slattery, a junior outside hitter, also earned Preseason All-WCC honors.
IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME:
After four straight weeks on the road, the Bulldogs return home for the first time in 2018. Gonzaga has had plenty of success in the Martin Centre in the last few seasons. Since 2014, Gonzaga is 30-18 in the Martin Centre including a 21-15 mark in WCC home matches.
DIGGIN' IT:
Senior libero Tiyana Hallums has been a consistent defensive presence for the Bulldogs all season, averaging nearly five digs per set (4.98) through 11 matches. The Honolulu, Hawaii native ranks 39th in the nation in digs per set, and she continues to climb the program career rankings. Currently, Hallums has 1,119 career digs, good for third in program history during the rally scoring era. Hallums averaged 6.90 digs per set through three matches at the Sparky Classic, earning her all-tournament honors in the final nonconference tournament this season.
CROFT FINDING HER RHYTHM:
Through the first eight matches of her career, freshman Kennedy Croft averaged less than one kill per set (0.97) and 1.5 digs per set. She also only recorded 120 attempts in the first eight matches, good for four attempts per set. In the last three matches, Croft as become one of the Bulldogs top targets, averaging nearly nine swings a set (8.88) and 2.63 kills per set. She's also increased her defensive productivity, averaging an even 2.00 digs per set and 0.25 blocks per set.
