Zags visit BYU to start conference action

SERIES NOTES:
Gonzaga and BYU meet for the 11th time. The Cougars have won all 10 previous meetings, including each of the five in Provo. BYU has outscored the Zags, 19-1, in the meetings in Provo. In a game that was televised nationally on ESPNU, the Cougars won an offensive shootout last year, 6-3, in front of a large crowd in Spokane. Jodi Ulkekul, Hope Tsuneyoshi and Jordan Thompson all scored for GU. The Cougar's Mikayla Colohan scored twice. BYU shutout Gonzaga, 6-0, in the last matchup in Provo in the 2016 regular season finale. The Cougars won the first all-time meeting, 4-0, in Provo on Oct. 13, 1995.
 
SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
- BYU is coming off of 3-1 home win over cross-town foe Utah Valley last Friday.
- The Cougars wrapped up their non-conference slate, and grabbed their fifth win, behind impressive offensive performances by Elise Flake and Bella Folino.
- Both Flake and Folino scored a goal and recorded an assist in the victory. Olivia Wade scored the third goal.
- Sabrina Davis made three saves in the BYU net.
- The Cougars outshot UVU, 27-12, placing nine shots on goal. BYU had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
- Flake has scored a team-high five goals and recorded three assists this season. Folino and Madie Gates both have four goals. Mikayla Colohan and Rachel Lyman have three assists each.
- Davis and Cassidy Smith have shared time in the BYU net. Davis has a team-best 19 saves.
- BYU averages a WCC-best 19.56 shots per game and 2.56 goals per game.
 
CLIMBING THE TOP TEN:
- India Jencks scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute in the Zags' 1-0 victory at Seattle.
- Her fourth goal of the season came off of a blocked shot by Sophia Viviano.
- It was Jencks' 13th goal of her career, which moves her to eighth in program history.
 
STONEWALL JONES:
- The Zags' defense and goalkeeper Isabel Jones have not allowed a goal in the past three games.
- Jones has a current streak of 277 minutes without allowing a goal.
- Jones currently has a 0.73 goals against average.
 
WCC TIME:
- Gonzaga opens its West Coast Conference schedule at BYU Thursday.
- The Zags won last season's conference-opener, 2-1, at Pacific. GU is 2-2 in its last four WCC openers.
- The Bulldogs fell to BYU in the 2015 conference-opener, 1-0, in Spokane.
