Zags Win Double-Overtime Thriller in San Diego

Ulkekul scores twice, including golden goal in 103rd minute

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Jodi Ulkekul scored twice, including the golden goal in the 103rd minute, to give the Gonzaga women's soccer team an exciting 3-2 double-overtime win at San Diego Sunday.

Ulkekul's game-winner in the 103rd minute was the fourth-lastest goal in the last decade for GU (6-3-2, 1-1-0 West Coast Conference). It's the Zags second double-overtime win this season, and third overtime victory.

Ulkekul opened the scoring in the 21st minute. The senior kicked in a rebound off of a deflected free kick into the side of the net.

San Diego's Milan Moses scored her ninth goal of the season in the 59th minute. McKenna Ferrera put Gonzaga back ahead with less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation. She brought in a cross from Callie Best, and struck it into the USD goal. Less than five minutes later, the Toreros found an equalizer. Katie Lapomarda recorded her second goal of the season off an assist by Moses.

Ulkekul's golden goal was the sixth score of her career, but her first game-winner. Alaysia Lane was credited with the assist. The goal gave GU its first win at San Diego since 2014, and only the fifth in 13 tries in program history.

Isabel Jones made a trio of saves in the Bulldog net, while Amber Michel stopped five Gonzaga shots. The Zags outshot San Diego, 14-10, and had an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Ulkekul led GU with three shots, while Moses took a game-high four shots for the Toreros (4-6-1, 0-2-0 WCC).

After six straight matches on the road, Gonzaga returns to Luger Field in Spokane for games against Pacific and Saint Mary's Friday and Sunday. Friday's match versus Pacific (2-9-0, 0-2-0) starts at 7 p.m. The Tigers were shutout at home, 4-0, against Saint Mary's Sunday.
