Gonzaga Returns Home to Host Cal Poly

SERIES NOTES:
Gonzaga and Cal Poly meet for the second time. The Mustangs won the only previous meeting between the programs, 2-1, in Spokane on Oct. 6, 1995. It was only the fifth year in the Zags' program history, and the fourth for Cal Poly. GU is 5-17-1 all-time versus current Big West Conference members. The Bulldogs won their last meeting against a current Big West member, a 4-0 victory over Hawaii last season in Spokane on Oct. 3. Cal Poly will visit fellow West Coast Conference member Santa Clara on Sept. 21. In their latest meeting against a WCC member, the Mustangs lost to Santa Clara, 1-0, last season.
 
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS:
- Cal Poly is coming off of a 3-2 loss to Utah Valley on Sunday. UVU scored back-to-back goals in the 82nd and 85th minutes to steal the win on the road.
- After Georgina Stiegeler scored a goal for Cal Poly in the 15th minute, the score was tied 1-1 at halftime. Brooke Rubinstein scored the Mustangs' second goal.
- Sophia Brown made six saves for Cal Poly.
- It was the Mustangs third loss in their last four games.
- Cal Poly has been outscored this season, 12-4, and four Mustangs have scored once this season.
- Jessica Johnson has taken a team-high 19 shots, with nine shots on goal.
- Brown has made 19 saves in the Cal Poly net, with a 2.43 goals against average and a .613 save percentage.
- The Mustangs' non-conference schedule features four ranked opponents.
- Senior defender Chelsea Barry was selected to the Big West Preseason All-Conference Team.
 
PERSONAL ASSISTANT:
- Sam Heilman was credited with an impressive three assists in the win at Oregon State.
- It was the most assists by a Zag in the last 10 seasons, and the most by a player so far this year in the West Coast Conference.
- Heilman now has a team-high four assists.
 
SEVENTEEN AGAIN:
- Sophia Viviano had another great game at Oregon State, scoring a goal and recording two assists.
- Viviano moved into the Top-10 in program history, with her eighth and ninth career assists, which is tied for ninth all-time at GU.
