MBB Takes Nine-Game Win Streak to Santa Clara

Zags look for their 27th straight conference road win

THE TIP-OFF:
- Gonzaga and Santa Clara meet for the 93rd time on Thursday in Santa Clara, Calif., at 8 p.m. GU owns a 62-30 advantage in the series.
- GU has won 41 of the last 43 meetings against the Broncos, including the last 18 straight matchups. Santa Clara's last win in the series was an 85-71 home victory on Jan. 20, 2011. Gonzaga is 21-23 all-time at Santa Clara, but have won 17 of their last 18 at SCU.
- The Bulldogs are 41-4 against SCU under Mark Few.
- Gonzaga is coming off an 89-66 win at Portland Saturday. Seven Zags finished scoring in double-figures, led by Rui Hachimura's 17 points.
- Clarke is second in the nation with 64 blocks, third averaging 3.20 blocks, and third in field goal percentage (69.8). Josh Perkins is eighth in the country with 130 assists and is 12th averaging 6.5 assists per game.
- The Zags are first in the nation in field goal percentage (52.4 percent), first in scoring margin (23.4), second in scoring offense (91.1), third with 374 total assists and fifth with 353 made free throws.
- Through the first five games, the Bulldogs are outscoring their conference opponents by an average of 25.6 points.
- Gonzaga has won 26 consecutive conference games on the road, which is the longest active such streak in the nation.
 
SERIES NOTES:
- This is the 93rd all-time meeting between Gonzaga and Santa Clara. GU owns a 62-30 advantage in the series.

- Gonzaga eased to a 91-48 win in this season's meeting in Spokane on Jan. 5. Rui Hachimura scored 25 points, Brandon Clarke added 16. SCU was held to 33 percent from the field.
- In last season's meeting at Santa Clara, GU won 75-60. Josh Perkins scored 17 points, while Rui Hachimura and Zach Norvell Jr. each added 16.
- The Bulldogs are 21-23 all-time at Santa Clara, but have won 17 of their last 18 at SCU.
- The Bulldogs are 31-6 all-time in Spokane in the series, and has won 11 straight at home versus the Broncos.
- Santa Clara won the first all-time meeting between the programs, 67-62, in Santa Clara on Feb. 3, 1959.
 
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
- After three straight road games, Santa Clara returns home to face the Zags Thursday. Four the Broncos' first six conference games have been away from home.
- SCU split last week, falling at Saint Mary's, but winning at Pacific Saturday, 69-57.
- At Pacific, Santa Clara's Tahj Eaddy posted 18 points, including 13 in the second half, and Josip Vrankic had a double-double (14 points/10 rebounds). Trey Wertz scored 15 and Keshawn Justice added 11 for the Broncos, who erased a 12-point second-half and ended the game on a 19-2 run.
- SCU shot 54 percent from the field in the road win at Pacific, including 8-of-19 from three-point range.
- Four Broncos average double-digit scoring led by Eaddy's 16.3 points. Vrankic (13.2), Wertz (12.2), and Justice (10.7) average double-digits as well. All four of those players are underclassmen.
 
A ZAG WIN WOULD ...
- Be Gonzaga's 32nd straight over an unranked team.
- Extend Gonzaga's national best conference win streak record to 20, including WCC Tournament games, 17 without.
- Extend GU's national best conference road win streak to 27.
- Be GU's 11th consecutive road win over an unranked team.
- Improve Josh Perkins' record to 120-17 in games he has played in for Gonzaga, including 29-1 in WCC road games.
 
BALANCED ATTACK:
- Seven Zags finished in double-digit scoring in the win at Portland. Rui Hachimura led Gonzaga with 17 points.
- Each of the seven GU players that played at least two minutes scored at least 10 points.
- The last time Gonzaga had seven double-digit scorers was in a victory over Chaminade in the 2013 Maui Invitational.
 
DYNAMIC DUO:
- Brandon Clarke and Rui Hachimura have reached double-digit scoring in each of the last 20 games.
- They are the first tandem at Gonzaga under head coach Mark Few to achieve that feat.
- Hachimura has scored in double-digits in each of the last 22 games.
 
CLARKE NAMED TO MIDSEASON WATCH LIST:
- Brandon Clarke was named to the midseason watch list for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award.
- The list includes 15 men's college basketball players whose defensive efforts on the court have set them apart from the pack.
- Jevon Carter of West Virginia won the inaugural award.
- Players not on the Midseason Watch List are still eligible to be selected as award semifinalists, which will be announced in February.
