SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team continues the 2019-20 season as it hosts Washington State at the Head of the Spokane Saturday morning on the Spokane River.
Gonzaga head coach
Marisa Wortman enters her second season as head coach of the Bulldogs. Last season, she led GU to its fifth-straight West Coast Conference Championship and fifth-straight trip to the NCAA Championships. Under Wortman's direction, the Zags finished 20th overall at the NCAAs.
Gonzaga and Washington State will race two 5,000-meter flights, with the first flight beginning at 9 a.m. on the Spokane River. The Zags will race six boats on Saturday, including the varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight and three novice boats.
"The Head of the Spokane is a great opportunity for us to have a home race on our river and compete against a team we see often, WSU," Wortman said. "We are looking forward to Saturday and continuing to make our boats faster."
GU returns five from last season's varsity eight boat that finished 19
th overall at the NCAA Championships, led by three-time WCC Coxswain of the Year
Alexa Jadallah. Four Zags also return from last season's second varsity eight boat.
