Zags Fall in Five-Set Battle at San Francisco

Multiple Zags set new career-highs in match

SAN FRANCISCO – The Gonzaga volleyball team fell in five sets (25-20, 25-27, 25-23, 21-25, 15-7) at San Francisco Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Gym. Multiple Bulldogs reached new career highs in the second five-set match of the season.
 
Gonzaga (6-14, 0-8 WCC) was led by Kennedy Croft with a career-high 20 kills off 68 swings with just four errors to hit .235. The sophomore from Tumwater, Wash., added 16 digs, just shy of her career high of 17, and she moved into the top 10 single season aces in program history with her 28th ace of the season. Chapin Gray added double-figure kills with 12 to go along with seven digs, while Sarah Penner added 11 kills and a career-high 27 digs, smashing her previous career high of 19.
 
Three other Zags finished with double-figure digs, including a career-high 27 from Julia Talarico; she added five assists on the afternoon. Freshman Alisa Kim tied her season-high with 17 digs, while Jenna Kuehn added 13 digs. Kuehn shattered her career-high in assists with 49; the senior now ranks fifth all-time in program history in career kills with 1,772 assists.
 
San Francisco (5-14, 1-7 WCC) snapped an 11-match losing streak with the five-set win. The Dons were led by Kathya Garcia with 23 kills and 29 digs while Emily Zinger added 18 kills. Ally Wada finished with a double-double with 50 assists, 22 digs and two blocks.
 
Gonzaga continues play on the road next week as it travels to Portland on Saturday, Oct. 26. The match is set for 12 p.m.
