GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Gonzaga men's rowing 'A' boat claimed the top spot in the Men's Open 8+ at the 2019 Head of the American Saturday. The annual regatta returned to Lake Natoma at Nimbus Flats California State Park.
The Zags' Varsity 8 boat finished the 5,000-meter course in 15:52.81 to win by more than three seconds. Orange Coast came in second with a time of 15:56.1, while UC Davis finished in third at 16:04.7.
Gonzaga's 'B' boat finished in fifth with a time of 16:15.1. There were 22 boats entered in the Men's Open 8+.
"Really good racing for us today in both boats," head men's rowing coach
Dan Gehn said. "Nice to get a win with the V8. They battled with Orange Coast all the way down the race course until digging in and pressing away the last 1500 meters."
The Bulldogs close their fall schedule at the Head of the Lake on Sunday, Nov. 3
