SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga men's golf team returns to the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate for the sixth straight season in Lahaina, Hawaii. The fifth annual 54-hole tournament at the Ka'anapali Golf Club begins Friday and runs through Sunday.
The par-71 Royal Ka'anapali Course plays 6,700 yards. The tournament-tested layout hosted the Champions Tour Ka'anapali Classic for 14 years, Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, the Canada Cup and LPGA Kemper Open, welcoming Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Jan Stephenson, Betsy King and other legends.
This year's field includes 20 teams; Gonzaga, Air Force, Boise State, Clemson, Connecticut, George Washington, Georgia, Hawai'I, Kansas, Liberty, North Texas, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, South Carolina, Southern Illinois, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.
Last year, California placed first at 47-under (805). The Golden Bears' Sebastian Crampton took medalist honors. He was eight-under (63) in the final round and 17-under (196) in the tournament. Oklahoma's Quade Cummins came in second at 15-under (198).
Charlie Magruder was five-under (66) in the final round, matching the third-lowest round in program history with his 66. He tied for 26th at four-under (209).
Matthew Ruel tied for 24th at five-under (208). As a team, Gonzaga tied for 13th at three-over (855). The Zags were one-over (285) in the final round.
The Bulldogs are coming off of a ninth-place finish at the Oregon State Invitational on Oct. 15. The Zags finished 36-over with an 888-team total.
Zach Stocker tied for 26th at six-over (219).
