Gonzaga Heads to Rose City Wednesday

Bulldogs look for 2-0-0 start to conference play

QUICK KICKS:
- Gonzaga makes its first trip of West Coast Conference play at Portland Wednesday.
- The Zags opened WCC play with a home win over San Diego last Saturday, 6-0. Samantha Heilman scored three goals for GU, and India Jencks assisted on all three of those goals.
- Eight of GU's 11 matches this season have been decided by one goal, and the Zags are 5-3 in those games.
- The Bulldogs are seventh in the nation averaging 8.91 shots on goal per game, and 20th averaging 17.4 shots per outing. GU is second in the WCC in both of those.
- The Zags are second in the conference averaging 2.55 goals per game, which also ranks 12th in the NCAA.
- Freshmen Lauren Elwer is 12th in the nation at 77.0 shot accuracy, which is second in the WCC.

SCOUTING THE PILOTS:
- Portland fell to Pepperdine in its West Coast Conference opener last Saturday, 2-1.
- The Waves scored the game's first two goals, before Portland found the back of the net in the 81st minute.
- Pepperdine outshot the Pilots, 14-10, but both teams took seven shots in the second half, and both teams placed six shots on goal in the match.
- Jenny Whalen made three saves in the Portland net, and Larkin Russell converted on a penalty kick for UP.
- Tayrn Ries leads the Pilots with three goals, four assists and 10 points this season.
- MJ Roe and Kimberly Hazlett have both scored twice.
- Whalen has made 36 saves with a .735 save percentage. Her goals against average is 1.37.
- The Pilots are currently sixth in the United Soccer Coaches West Region rankings, while GU is fifth.
 
HEILMAN NAMED WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
- Samantha Heilman was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday.
- Heilman scored three goals as the Gonzaga women's soccer team opened West Coast Conference play with 6-0 victory over San Diego at Luger Field Saturday.
- Heilman was the first Zag to record a hat trick in 16 years. Annie Hawkins was the last to achieve the feat in a 3-1 win over Portland State on Aug. 29, 2003.
- Heilman has five career goals and 18 career points.
 
LOOKING AHEAD ... SAN FRANCISCO:
- Gonzaga hosts San Francisco Saturday at 7 p.m.
- After beating the Dons 6-2 in Spokane in 2017, GU drew at San Francisco, 1-1, last season.
- USF leads the all-time series 17-8-1, including 9-2-0 in the matchups in Spokane.
