Zags Pick Up Win No. 11

Heilman scores game-winner in 75th minute

MORAGA, Calif. – The Gonzaga women's soccer team shutout Saint Mary's on the road, 1-0, Saturday.
 
Samantha Heilman scored the game-winner for the Zags in the 75th minute. GU reached 11 wins for the first time since 2007. The Bulldogs are one victory shy of tying the program record for most wins in a season. GU reached four West Coast Conference wins in a season for only the third time in program history.
 
Gonzaga (11-5-1, 4-2-1 West Coast Conference) outshot SMC, 19-6, and had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Zags had an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Heilman scored her sixth goal of the season and eighth of her career in the win. All six her goals this season have come in the last seven games. It was the senior's third game-winning goal of the season. She was able to chip a shot over the Saint Mary's goalkeeper for the win.
 
Madeline Gotta took a game-high eight shots for the Bulldogs, moving to eighth in program history with 131 shots in her career. India Jencks took five shots in the game, and now has 130 in her career.
 
Isabel Jones made four saves in the Gonzaga net, while Sarah Sawatsky had three saves for SMC (7-9-1, 1-5-1 WCC)
 
Gonzaga hosts No. 4 BYU (15-0-1, 5-0-1) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Zags will honor 12 student-athletes playing their final regular season games at Luger Field. GU finishes its regular season schedule at Pacific next Saturday.
