SPOKANE, Wash. – Fourth-ranked BYU defeated Gonzaga women's soccer, 3-0, on Senior Night at Luger Field Wednesday.
The Cougars (17-0-1, 7-0-1 West Coast Conference) remained one of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the nation with the victory. Prior to the match, the Zags honored 12 student-athletes that played their final regular season games at Luger Field in front of 1,104 fans.
BYU's Jamie Shepherd scored her first collegiate goal in the 25
th minute to open the scoring. She drove a shot into the GU net off of an assist from Elise Flake.
In the 36
th minute, Flake found the back of the net for the 17
th time this season. The senior tops the conference in goals and points (39).
Mikayla Colohan scored her 12
th goal of the season, with a shot inside the box in the 39
th minute. Flake and Ashton Brockbank were credited with assists.
BYU outshot the Bulldogs, 17-14. The Cougars had a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. BYU took six corner kicks in the game, while Gonzaga had four.
Isabel Jones made four saves in the Zag (11-6-1, 4-3-1 WCC) net.
Gonzaga finishes its regular season schedule at Pacific (3-15, 0-8) Saturday. The Tigers fell at San Diego Wednesday, 1-0. Saturday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on GoZags.com.
