PROVO, Utah – The Gonzaga volleyball team battled No. 13 BYU for four sets, falling 3-1 (25-21, 9-25, 10-25, 16-25) Saturday afternoon inside the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse.
Gonzaga (10-19, 4-13 WCC) finished with 38 kills on the night hitting .101 with 33 assists, 30 digs and 7.0 blocks. Two Zags finished with double-figure kills, led by
Chapin Gray and
Sarah Penner with 12 kills each. Gray hit .314 on the day with five digs while Penner added four blocks, three digs, two service aces and an assist.
Jenna Kuehn finished with a team-high 23 assists and 13 digs.
The Bullodgs opened the match with a 25-21 first set win, the first set GU has won over BYU since the 2016 season. Gray led the way with four kills in the set. BYU responded with a resounding 25-9 win in the second set, and the Cougars battled for the 25-20 and 25-16 third and fourth set wins.
BYU (24-4, 15-2 WCC) was led by McKenna Miller with 18 kills hitting .433 while Heather Gneiting added 12 kills. Whitney Bower finished with a match-high 43 assists and 13 digs, while Gneiting added seven blocks.
Gonzaga returns to the floor Monday, Nov. 25 against Portand at 6 p.m. inside the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre. The match is the final regular-season match for the Zags, and will serve as Senior Night for both
Jenna Kuehn and
