Perkins Named to Bob Cousy Award Late Season List

Zags’ redshirt senior sixth in the country with 154 assists

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Gonzaga's Josh Perkins was named one of the 10 players on the late season list for the 2019 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday.

Named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor now in its sixteenth year recognizes the top point guards in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee comprising top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to just 10.

Perkins is sixth in the country with 154 assists so far this season. He is averaging 6.7 assists per game, which ranks ninth in the country. The redshirt senior leads the West Coast Conference in both of those categories, along with assist-to-turnover ratio (3.50). His 632 career assists are the third-most amongest active players in the country. Perkins boasts a 122-17 record in games he has played in as a Zag, including a remarkable 29-1 record in conference road games. He is eight assists from 640 in his career, which would move him to second on the program's all-time list.

In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Cousy and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2019 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, Calif., on April 12, along with the other four members of the Naismith Starting 5. Additional awards being presented and receiving support from Eaton Ephesus Lighting include the Jerry West Shooting Guard Award, the Julius Erving Small Forward Award, the Karl Malone Power Forward Award and the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center Award. Broadcast information will be released by ESPN at a later date.
