Bulldogs Open Second Half of WCC Play Thursday

Zags look for their 23rd straight win over a WCC foe

THE TIP-OFF:
- Gonzaga and San Francisco meet for the 82nd time on Thursday in Spokane, at 6 p.m. GU has a 59-22 advantage in the series.
- The Zags have won 15 straight versus the Dons. USF's last win in the series came on Feb 18, 2012, 66-65, at San Francisco. Gonzaga is 33-2 all-time against the Dons in Spokane.
- GU is 38-4 against San Francisco under Mark Few.
- Gonzaga is coming off an 85-69 win over San Diego Saturday. Rui Hachimura led the Zags with 33 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field. Zach Norvell Jr. added 21 points with five made three-pointers.
- Brandon Clarke is second in the nation in field goal percentage (68.9), third with 69 blocks, and third averaging 3.0 blocks. Josh Perkins is sixth in the country with 154 assists and is ninth averaging 6.7 assists.
- Clarke is one block from matching the most in a single season in program history (70). He is currently tied for second with Zach Collins at 69.
- The Zags are first in the nation in field goal percentage (52.7 percent), first in scoring margin (24.9), first in scoring offense (91.2), first in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.77), and second with 431 total assists.
- Through the first eight games, the Bulldogs are outscoring their conference opponents by an average of 29.1 points.
 
SERIES NOTES:
- This is the 82nd all-time meeting between Gonzaga and San Francisco. GU has a 59-22 advantage in the series.
- GU is 38-4 against San Francisco under Mark Few.

- Gonzaga has won 29 in-a-row in Spokane in the series, including all 14 in the McCarthey Athletic Center.
- The Bulldogs are 33-2 against USF in Spokane all-time. The Dons last won in Spokane on Feb. 10, 1989, 67-64.
- The Zags won last season's matchup at GU. Killian Tillie and Johnathan Williams each scored 16 points as No. 15 Gonzaga held off San Francisco 82-73 by making all 14 of its free throws down the stretch. Rui Hachimura added 14 points.
- In the meeting earlier this season at USF on Jan. 12, Brandon Clarke scored 24 points and Gonzaga got a tiebreaking 3-pointer from Zach Norvell Jr. with less than three minutes remaining as part of a game-ending 17-2 run that led to a 96-83 victory over the Dons. Rui Hachimura added 21 points.
- GU is 22-18 all-time at San Francisco. The Bulldogs are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings at USF.
- San Francisco edged GU, 64-62, in the first-ever meeting at USF on Jan. 28, 1961.
 
SCOUTING THE DONS:
- San Francisco fell at Saint Mary's Saturday, 86-80. USF trailed by 17 at halftime, but cut the lead to three late.
- Frankie Ferrari and Charles Minlend both scored 22 points for the Dons, combining for 10 made three-pointers. Ferrari dished out nine assists.
- San Francisco only turned the ball over six times, but was outrebounded 34-27.
- Minlend averages 15.2 points per game, while Ferrari scores 14.1 a game. Matt McCarthy adds 10.2 points per outing.
- Ferrari dishes out 5.7 assists per game, which ranks third in the conference. His 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio is second.
- McCarthy is third in the league shooting 64.2 percent from the field, and seventh grabbing 6.6 rebounds per game.
- The Dons are second in the WCC holding opponents to 63.8 points per game, and first limiting foes to 29.3 percent from three-point range.
 
A ZAG WIN WOULD ...
- Be Gonzaga's 35th straight over an unranked team.
- Extend Gonzaga's national best conference win streak record to 23, including WCC Tournament games, 20 without.
- Extend GU's home win streak to 19 games.
- Improve Josh Perkins' record to 123-17 in games he has played in for Gonzaga.
 
ANOTHER BIG NIGHT FOR RUI:
- Rui Hachimura scored 32 points in the win over San Diego on 11-of-15 shooting from the field.
- He finished one point shy of matching his career-high 33 points scored earlier this season versus Idaho State.
- The junior also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots in 34 minutes.
