Men’s Tennis Handles Idaho State, 5-2

Zags remain perfect at 4-0 on the season

OGDEN, Utah — The Gonzaga men's tennis team continued its hot start to the season with a 5-2 to win over Idaho State in a neutral site match in Ogden, Utah.

The win moves Gonzaga to 4-0, which matches last season as the best in school history through the first four matches. Idaho State dropped to 2-3.

"We came out with great energy and were solid in doubles play," head coach Jonas Piibor said. "We came out surprisingly flat in singles play, but we did a good job settling in and managed to come back. I expect us to be better tomorrow in the areas we can control."

GU controlled doubles play with a sweep of the first two matches to finish to claim the point. The duo of Emilio Moreno and Hunter Egger won 6-3, and Sam Feit and Ruadhan O'Sullivan won 6-4 to put GU up 1-0.

In singles, GU dropped the first set on three of the six courts, but a straight-set win by Kyle Everly 6-3, 6-3 turned a 1-1 tie into a 2-1 Zag lead and the rest of the squad followed. Egger came back from down a set to win 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-1, and Sam Feit clinched the fourth point with a 7-5, 6-4 win.

O'Sullivan also added a victory from down a set with a 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3 win on No. 1.

The Zags are back in action in Ogden, Utah, on Sunday against the host Weber State Wildcats at 9 a.m.
